Simon Cowell's Was 'Nearly Paralysed And Is Lucky To Be Recovering' After 'Life Changing' Bike Accident

Insiders say the music mogul has had a wake up call since he was almost paralysed when he fell off his electric bike in August and have made him realise he's not "invincible".

A friend of Cowell's said "He definitely no longer feels invincible and this has been a wake up for him about his health and lifestyle.

"He was nearly paralysed and feels lucky to be recovering at all."

The latest reports comes after it was believed that Simon is reconsidering his stance on marriage and thinking about popping the question to Lauren, 43, following his accident.

A source told the publication: "The fall was of life-changing seriousness. Some in his circle think it might even make him think again about making a commitment of marriage to Lauren. ‘Never say never'."

Meanwhile Simon's recovery is "taking longer than expected" and it will be a "long road" to build up strength again.

After six weeks of being agony, the 61-year-old is now off his high-strength painkillers.

The music mogul recently celebrated his birthday as he recovered from his horrifying bike accident which left his back broken in three places.

Simon turned 61 last week and pal Terri Seymour decided to throw him a belated celebration with an impressive birthday cake to mark his special day.

The 48-year-old entertainment reporter - who dated the Britain's Got Talent judge from 2002 to 2008 - took to her Instagram Story to share what they got up to for his special day.

In the video, Simon's six-year-old son Eric and Terri's daughter Coco, 5, are seen jumping up and down with excitement as they sing happy birthday.

The BGT boss looked smart in a navy blue jacket, a plain white T-shirt and stylish circular glasses.

This is Simon's first appearance since the beginning of August when The Sun revealed he was almost left paralysed after breaking his back in 3 places and missed his spinal cord by 1cm.

He was rushed to hospital and underwent six hours of surgery to fix his broken back after falling off of his electric trail bike.

He stayed at Saint John's hospital in Santa Monica, just a short drive from his £18million home in Malibu, and had a mental rod inserted into his spine after breaking his vertebrae.

In the summer it was revealed that Simon wouldn't be able to work for weeks and would have to undergo intense physiotherapy to help him recover.

It was later reported that Ashley Banjo would be stepping in as a replacement judge on BGT so he could focus on his recovery.

Last week The Sun revealed he will be out of action for up to six months due to surgery complications and the fact that he's on high-strength drugs to ease the pain.

Simon has kept a low profile since the accident, but he took to Twitter to address what happened.

He told 11.3m followers: "Some good advice... If you buy an electric trail bike, read the manual before you ride it for the first time.

"I have broken part of my back. Thank you to everyone for your kind messages.."
