COVID-19: FCTA Assures Return Of Golf Activities Soon
Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has assured the soon return of golf activities in the nation’s capital, which was halted following the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.
The director of sports development, Mrs Dilichukwu Onyendinma gave the assurance yesterday when Engr Oladapo Olaide Mohammed-led FCT Golf Association paid her a courtesy visit in her office.
She said the government is working round the clock to ensure safe return of sporting activities.
“Am happy that we all are concerned about the closures of sporting activities in the FCT and Nigeria generally.
"We are going to push for the return of golf because we have received a detailed letter of why Nigeria should resume golf in terms of health, recreation, International relations, and economic reasons. We know that the government is keeping us from being infected with the COVID-19, but even as that, if we don’t engage in sporting activities it may lead to death. So the best thing is to create avenues to avoid more death.
“We will take the matter to the high authorities and I’m confident that they will reconsider reopening the golf courses,” she said.
Earlier, chairman FCT Golf Association, Engr Oladapo Olaide Mohammed, reassured the government of stringent adherence to the measures put in place to stem the tide of the pandemic, saying the association has put in place rules and regulations to be followed such as the provision of sanitizers, handwashing, wearing of face mask and physical distancing.
